The How To's Of Wedding Planning: Etiquette and Protocols

Even though a wedding is supposed to be a fun, happy time celebrating the union of two people, there are a lot of technicalities that go into making the day perfect that the bride and groom may not consider. Good thing you’re a trained professional who can help make it all possible!

Marriage Licenses

The rules and regulations that couples must follow in order to obtain a license aren’t always common knowledge. As a planner, make sure they know all of the rules for the state, and that they have proper legal documentation for the day of the wedding.

Save the Dates and Invites

Save the dates are a cute quirky way to express the personalities of the bride and groom while reminding invitees of the celebration. Usually they are sent 3 months before the wedding date. For Invitations, order them 4 months prior, and send them 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Include the invite, return card and envelope, directions and a meal preference card if required. Use the same stationary for the table placements and menus the day of the wedding, and the thank you notes after, to keep the theme cohesive throughout the event.

Usually, the bride won’t consult the planner on gowns or tuxedos. Don’t take it personally, it’s the most important dress she’ll wear, she needs those closest to her to help pick it out! It doesn’t hurt to brush up on gown and tux shops in the area, as well as prices for different designers, just to lend a helping hand. Similarly, the bride will choose how she wants the bridal party to look, so stay on the outskirts and be ready to help if needed.

Financial Traditions

There have been a lot of traditions over the years regarding who pays for what part of the wedding, but everyone’s different! Keep tabs on whether the bride & groom, her family or his family are paying for certain aspects of the day. Communicate with your clients so you know where the different sectors of the budget are coming from, so that everyone gets paid!

Out-of-town Guests

Remember that these guests need somewhere to stay! Reserve blocks of rooms in two hotels with different rates, so that everyone can make the most of their time in town. Greet them with a “welcome basket” filled with treats and wedding info to help them feel at home! Small favors should also be given to all guests to give them something to remember the amazing night!

The Sunshine is Here and Spring Weddings are Near

What’s that? THE SUN? Spring is quickly approaching and what brighter time to have a wedding than the spring season. As you prepare for your springtime wedding, we have some thoughtful tips for you on how to make it the absolute best. Spring is one of the most popular times for weddings, and so being prepared is crucial to the big day success.

  1. Rain rain go away, come again another day.

Yes, as much as we love spring, the rain showers are unavoidable. And how can we prepare for this trouble that mother nature likes to cause us?

There’s a simple solution… Tents, tents, and bigger tents. Look up tent rentals to ensure that yes, you can have that outdoor wedding you’ve always wanted, but not at the cost of that perfectly done up hair. Tents are a stunning, simple way to prevent the rain from ruining your special day. You’re still outside, but safe from the mudslide; the kind of slide all white gowns are trying to avoid. wedding tentttt

2. Tis’ the Season for your favorite flowers.

With all that rain and sunshine your favorite flowers are sure to bloom. Here’s a list of top ten seasonal flowers at your lucky disposal for the spring! Not every wedding gets to feature these gorgeous flowers, but yours certainly can. Be sure to take advantage of the beautiful gardens that spring gifts us.

  • Crocus
  • Daffodil
  • Tulip
  • Snakes Head Fritillary
  • Lily of the Valley
  • Hyacinth
  • Winter Aconite
  • Bluebell
  • Puschkinia

3. We still love you pastels, but it’s time for some change.

There’s always going to be the classic pastel color palettes in the spring, but there’s no reason for you to hold back on trying something new. Pastels can be beautifully mixed with contrasting colors just to spice things up a notch! Baby pinks with a charcoal gray, maybe lavenders with pops of bright fuchsia, or go bold with pops of dark red blended in with those spring tints and shades. This maintains the pastels we love, but freshens them up with something different. Who’s going to stop you? The pastel police? I don’t think so.

4. It’s not summer just yet.

We’re all guilty of getting a little TOO excited about the warm weather. Yes the sun is shining, but it’s not time for strapless dresses and flip flops quite yet. Especially for a spring wedding, don’t forget the day can be a little chilly and by night you might want to bundle up. The bridal party, including the bride herself, might want to consider something like shrugs, shawls, or wraps. It’s better to be safe than sorry. You don’t want people thinking, “I’m cold” when they should be thinking, “Best wedding ever.”

5. Spring-time Inspiration.

There’s so many inspiring features to spring that can be perfectly tied into your seasonal wedding. From invitations, all the way to the gown, spring holds special ideas that can only be effectively used this time of year.

Send a bulb or some flower seeds in your “Save the Dates” as a marker/reminder of your spring wedding. Men, do the unthinkable and wear light-colored suits as opposed to your average all black, or dark formal wear.

Thinking floral headbands? Yes, yes, and yes. Springtime is THE time to whip out those flower wreaths as headbands, and bring a whole new meaning to “flower girl.” And don’t choose one kind of flower, choose a bunch. You have so many options, never feel like you’re limited to one, especially in the blooming springtime.

Spring is all around, and the inspiration coming from nature is endless. Look around yourself, and get creative!

Whether you’re braving the rain in a wedding tent, mixing up your pastels and contrasting them, or adding a shawl for comfortable flair… Springtime is approaching, and wedding planning is a beautiful thing. Take advantage of the fabulous season that nature is giving you and get going on creating the day to remember!

Happy Spring.

Celebs that tied the Knot on St. Valentine's Day

As we bid adieu to the annual day of love, let’s look into what happened in celeb history. We’re all a little guilty of keeping up with celebrity relationships better than our own. But do we remember the puppy eyed lovers that got hitched on the day for romance?

Canadian-American actress and model, Pamela Anderson married Tommy Lee, drummer of Motley Crüe on Valentine’s Day in 1995. The pair had only known each other for 3 DAYS. Anderson’s mother found out about the wedding through People magazine and had no prior knowledge of the engagement/newly-weds. Married in her bikini on a beach in Cancun, Mexico, this was Anderson’s first of four marriages.

Movie stars Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid married after starring in three films together D.O.A., Innerspace, and Flesh and Bones. They wed on V-day in 1991 and had one of the most extravagant weddings of the decade. Their not-so-fabulous divorce came about in 2001 after a crazy love triangle and suspected infidelity on both ends. However, Hollywood gives “Kudos!” to the pair for making it 10 years, being one of the longer lasting celeb couples.

Saying Mayte Garcia received a little help from Prince with her album would be an understatement. He was the producer of her album “Child of the Sun” and things definitely escalated. Garcia and Prince bonded over their musical partnership and married on Valentine’s Day in 1996 live online. She was only 22 at the time, and Prince was a little older at 37 years old. But hey, age is just a number!

Lil Wayne and Antonia Wright, his high school sweetheart, married on Valentine’s day in 2004. The couple met when they were only 12 years old in New Orleans, Louisiana… talk about young love. Toyota was 14 when she became pregnant, and Lil Wayne became a father at the age of only 16. After his music career started taking off the high school sweeties got married, but divorced shortly after in 2006.

Victoria Secret model, Adriana Lima married NBA player, Marko Jarić on V-day in 2009. An absolutely stunning couple, the lovers  named their daughter “Valentina” which is a Latin name meaning brave and strong. What better way to remember your vows!?

So … did any of you tie the knot this weekend? Let’s keep this tradition going!
